Lake O'Hara

Spent the weekend camping at the most naturally perfect place I have ever seen called Lake O'Hara. Access into the area is restricted to protect the fragile vegetation and abundant wildlife but we were lucky enough to get a camp spot on a cancellation. On the first day we went for a hike to the glacier-fed Lake Oesa. The trail wound past waterfalls, mountain goats and golden larches. After a good night's sleep in the faithful Fairydown we spent the second day hiking out to the equally beautiful but more rugged Lake McArthur. Stay tuned for more of B's National Geographic style ramblings on the wildlife we spotted.

Guinn's Pass

Headed down to Kananaskis Country again this week and did the hike up to Guinn's Pass. At the trailhead was a cool suspension bridge (for those of you into gay cowboys it featured in the movie Brokeback Mountain). The hike then followed an enchanted little waterway called Galatea Creek for about 5km before it branched off and climbed up to the pass. Despite a hard slog up an avalanche gully the view from the top down into the basin was great.
The pass was named after a bloke called Guinn who dragged his pack-laden horses down the side of the mountain and then realised the next day there was an easier way to get through.

Drove my Chevy to the Levy

For the bargain basement price of 500 smackeroos we have picked up a nifty little station wagon that we have delicately called Chevy Chase. Now let's hope he gets us across the 5000km that it takes to cross this country. His first run was down to Wedge Pond in Kananaskis Country for some fishing. We were hoping to pick up a new species - the arctic grayling - but the crafty buggers eluded us all day. Still, it was a smooth ride down in the new vehicle, and that's all we could hope for.
