C Level Cirque

Went for a hike up to C Level Cirque on the weekend. The name C Level refers to the coal mining operation that was in action in the early twentieth century. And cirque is a French word for a basin that a glacier forms. The end of the trail found us looking up at the face of Cascade Mountain with the backdrop of Rundle Mountain.

Next on the hit list

Busy planning the next fishing trip. The Red Deer seems to have the attributes required for a good weekend. Check out some videos of the big browns sipping mayflies here.

Graffiti art in Toronto

Found this interesting video about a public beautification project in Toronto sponsered by the phone company Bell.

Increasing traffic

In a shameless attempt to increase traffic on this site i have started to implement a few strategies of self promotion.
One of these strategies invloves the use of Technorati tags. Technorati is a great tool that allows you to search millions of blogs by tag (keyword). For an explanation on the use of tags see here.
A great tool for making Technorati tagging easy can be found here.

Mount Borgeau

Conquered the 2930 metres of Mount Borgeau - the highest peak you can see in this picture. After an 11 hour round trip slog the expedition group finally made it to the summit and back down. The final ridge to the top was a tough scree slope but once up there the view from the top was awesome.

Chester Lake

Took a stroll up to Chester Lake in Kananaskis Country last week. Once again had a beautiful hike through alpine wildflowers, sweeping green meadows with the ever awesome presence of mountains on all sides. Harley looked like he was enjoying himself too.

A trip to the blue ribbon trout streams of Southern Alberta

So took a trip down to some blue ribbon trout waters on the Alberta/British Columbia border this weekend.
Great to get the tent out again and do some camping.
We had some super hot weather (34oC) but it did'nt stop us getting into some classic fishing. We fished the Oldman River, Crowsnest River and Highwood River and caught stuff in all of them. Some amazing scenery down in the foothills too, see attached photos.

Lake Agnes Teahouse

Hiked up to a nineteenth century alpine teahouse on the shore of Lake Agnes today. We enjoyed the view with a cup of Pearl Drop Morning Dew green tea. After that we continued on to the Big Beehive before heading to the Plain of Six Glaciers. Highlights included the white mountain heather and hearing the thundering of an avalanche.

Canada Day

On July 1 we celebrated Canada Day with the rest of the country. Morning begins with a community breakfast fry up of pancakes and sausages with maple syrup poured over the lot. After that heart attack start to the day there is much carousing until fireworks are lit all over the country at dark. Hurray to the land of the maple leaf!

Hoary marmot

Yet another little hairy ratlike creature, called the hoary marmot, lives in the Rockies. It's fat cheeks puff indignantly as it issues a high-pitched squeak on seeing humans. May prove dangerous if approached holding a muesli bar.

Stanley Glacier

Went for a hike to the stunning Stanley Glacier yesterday. The uphill slog was worth it for the gushing waterfalls, carpets of wildflowers and walls of snow capped mountains.
