Cyclone Wati creates surfing Mayhem

Well the tail end of Cyclone Wati whipped up some massive surf on the east coast of Australia yesterday. This sort of event always grabs attention in the media and its great to see the photos of NSW beaches (photo is Avalon!!) you have visited before looking like something of the North Shore Oahu of Hawaii.
No doubt one of the better breaks on the south east coast of Tassie would have been cranking ;-)

Hot and dry on the river

Coming to the end of summer here in Tasmania, went down to a local river for some trout today, the river was very low and the fields dry. There was a large number of grass hoppers about so i tried a hopper pattern. Because of the lack of water the fish were very spooky but i managed to stalk a nice brownie lying in a slow pool. He checked out the fly on the first cast but second time round he couldnt resist and smashed it. I set the hook and he headed straight for the weed, seconds later he was gone.

Two and a half weeks to go!

2.5 weeks until we leave for Canada fired up the new tent this weekend for a trial run. Performed very well although no snow or high winds like I am expecting in Canada. Also included a photo of the river we camped by. Very pretty especially with the early morning mist.
